Come sail on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore! This program allows for a wide range of abilities to harness the power of the wind on beautiful Lake Tahoe. All skill levels are welcome – from a first time experience to learning how to sail independently. Lessons will consist of learning basic water safety, boating skills, tacking, jibing, rigging, and much more!

2022 Schedule & Rates

Individualized Sailing Lessons (Age: 8+)

Join us for 2 days of sailing on beautiful Lake Tahoe’s West Shore. Every participant will receive 1:1 sailing instruction designed to meet their needs. In the morning, you’ll learn the fundamentals of sailing on shore, and in the afternoon, you’ll take those skills to the water. This program is best for adults with disabilities and any participants that would have difficulties learning in a group environment.

Dates:  June 28-29; June 30-July 1; July 19-20; July 21-22; August 2-3; August 4-5; August 16-17; August 18-19
Time:  10AM – 4 PM
Price:  $125 for 2 days
Location:  Obexer’s Marina in Homewood

Youth Sailing Camps (Age: 8-17)

Enjoy 4 days of fun-filled sailing adventures on Lake Tahoe. You’ll learn about sail boats and rigging, boating safety and recovery, steering, tacking, gybing, and more. Our participants are included in Tahoe Community Sailing’s youth camp with the support of Achieve Tahoe’s staff and volunteers. This program is best for youth with disabilities that can participate in a group environment with support.

Dates:  July 12-15; July 26-29
Time:  10AM – 4 PM
Price:  $250 for 4 days
Location:  Obexer’s Marina in Homewood

Lake Tahoe Adventurers (Age: 12-17)

Partake in 4 days of Lake Tahoe’s best summer activities including hiking, sailing, SUPing, and powerboating. We’ll adventure alongside Tahoe City’s campers with the support of Achieve Tahoe’s staff and volunteers. Best for youth with disabilities that can participate in adapted versions of the activities above in a group environment with support.

Family Sailing Experience (Age: All)

Enjoy an afternoon of sailing on Lake Tahoe with friends and family. In conjunction with our friends at Cruisers Academy, you’ll help Captain Ben sail a 27’ Catalina. This is a great opportunity to get an introduction to sailing with the comfort and safety of a larger sailboat. Best for participants with disabilities and their family and friends.

All sailing programs can be adapted for anyone who fits our essential eligibility criteria. Age limits can be adjusted on a case-by-case basis.

COVID-19 GUIDELINES

CANCELLATION POLICY: Please give notice of cancellation at least 24 hours in advance to receive an Achieve Tahoe credit, which can be used towards any future Achieve Tahoe Program.  

If you are sick, or feeling sick, please contact Achieve Tahoe to cancel your reservation as far in advance as possible, and before the start of the program. In the case of illness, you can either:

  • Request a credit, which can be used towards any future Achieve Tahoe Program
  • Request a refund, minus at 15% processing fee.

Essential Eligibility Criteria for Participation

For the health and safety of our community, in order to participate in the Achieve Tahoe Sailing Program, a participant must meet the criteria listed below.

  • Participant is able to turn face-up from a face-down floating position in the water, while wearing an approved personal flotation device.
  • If the participant has had a traumatic injury, or surgery/medical treatments that affected your activities of daily living in the past 12 months, they can only participate with a doctor’s release.
  • If help is needed with bladder or bowel routine, feeding tube, or administering prescription medications, a care provider or family member will be present to assist.
  • Participant must be able to breathe independently without any medical devices that sustain breathing.
  • For participants with Down Syndrome, the participant must have been examined by a physician for Neurologic Symptoms of Atlantoaxial Instability, found the symptoms to be absent, and has been cleared to participate in high risk sports.

Essential Eligibility Criteria for the Tetra Sailboat:

For participants who can not independently turn themselves from a face-down to a face-up floating position in the water, an approved Achieve Tahoe personal flotation device is required. Call for details.

Location for Sailing

The Sailing program typically launches out of Obexer’s Boat Company in Homewood, CA.
