Funding from the Lahontan Community Foundation Fund held at the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation allowed Achieve Tahoe to provide full-scholarships for this past summer’s adaptive sports programs to the Tahoe Ability Program. Due to these scholarships, local Tahoe-area adults with developmental disabilities learned archery, went hiking, and attended Achieve Tahoe’s Sierra Summer Sports day camp where they kayaked, rode personal watercraft, and tubed.

“We love working with the Tahoe Ability Program,” said Haakon Lang-Ree, Executive Director of Achieve Tahoe. “We are grateful that the Lahontan Community Foundation Fund held at the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation helped us provide adaptive programming to Tahoe locals free of charge.”

“Despite the effects of Covid and the fires, Achieve Tahoe made this summer one of the best for our participants,” said Kimberly Whitington, Executive Director of the Tahoe Ability Program. “The opportunity for everyone to enjoy water sports on the lake plus hiking and archery nearly every Friday this summer has made a lasting impact and has brought so much joy to their lives during this difficult time.”

“Tim taught me how to shoot a bow and arrow during archery. I really liked working with him,” said Jeffrey, a participant in the Tahoe Ability Program. “During Sierra Summer Sports I really enjoyed tubing because I like going fast behind the boat.”

“Everyone at Achieve Tahoe was very helpful,” said Erin, another participant in the Tahoe Ability Program. “On days where we hiked on unpaved trails they allowed me to use an adaptive off roading wheelchair. This addition made me feel included in all summer activities.”

Achieve Tahoe would like to thank the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation for helping us support our local community and achieve our goal of providing affordable and inclusive adaptive recreation to those of all abilities.
